What is email marketing

Email marketing is an effective way to get in touch with customers directly. Companies send targeted messages such as offers, news or important information to their recipients by email. These emails can be personalised and automated, for example for regular newsletters or reminders about abandoned carts.

Who email marketing pays off for

The deciding factor isn't your industry but whether customers buy from you more than once.

Online stores

The clearest case. Abandoned carts, repeat orders and seasonal campaigns can all be automated. Around two thirds of all carts are abandoned – a single reminder email regularly wins back a share of them.

Service businesses with repeat customers

Hairdressers, physiotherapy, fiduciary services, consulting. Here it's less about selling and more about staying in mind until the next need arises. A newsletter every four to six weeks is usually enough.

Local businesses with a customer list

If you already have email addresses but only use them for invoices, there's untapped potential sitting there. Building it costs little because the list already exists.

Which campaigns actually generate revenue

Not every send is worth it. These four run automatically and carry most of the result for most clients.

Welcome sequence

Two or three emails after signup. Open rates here are usually far higher than for any later send, because the interest is fresh. Leaving this moment unused wastes the best point of contact you have.

Abandoned cart

A reminder after a few hours, a second after a day. For stores this is the campaign with the best effort-to-return ratio – set up once, it runs without further input.

Regular newsletter

News, offers, expertise. The purpose isn't the single sale but that people know you when the need arises. Consistency matters more than length.

Re-engagement

Customers who haven't bought for months get a targeted nudge. Cheaper than any new customer acquisition, because the trust already exists.

Why email marketing matters

Direct customer loyalty

Email marketing creates a direct connection to your customers and strengthens existing relationships – cheaper and more effective than acquiring new customers.

The right moment

Unlike other marketing channels, you reach customers at exactly the right moment with personalised and automated messages.

Revenue growth

Keep customers regularly informed about news and exclusive offers – building trust and revenue continuously.

Frequently asked questions

How often should I send newsletters?
The optimal frequency depends on industry and audience. For most companies we recommend one to four newsletters per month. More important than the number is consistency: someone who sends four times a year gets treated as spam on the fifth, because nobody remembers signing up.
What does email marketing cost?
The software is priced by number of contacts. Up to around 500 addresses most providers are free; at 2,500 contacts costs are typically CHF 30 to 60 per month. On top comes the setup: welcome sequence, abandoned cart and templates in your brand design start at around CHF 1,500 one-off.
Which email marketing tools do you use?
For stores usually Klaviyo, because the connection to Shopify and WooCommerce is cleanest and cart data is directly available. For service businesses without a store, Brevo or Mailchimp is often enough. We choose based on your needs, not on commission.
How can I build my email list?
Through a sign-up form in a visible place, a pop-up with a concrete incentive, a download such as a checklist, and sign-up during checkout. What matters is the value exchange: "subscribe to our newsletter" convinces nobody, "10 percent off your first order" does.
Is email marketing legal in Switzerland?
Yes, with consent. The Federal Act against Unfair Competition requires that recipients have agreed to the send, can identify the sender and can unsubscribe easily at any time. An exception applies to existing customers for similar products. We set up double opt-in and the unsubscribe link so you stay on the safe side.
What is a good open rate?
Across all industries the average is around 20 to 25 percent. Automated emails such as welcome or cart sequences often reach 40 to 60 percent because they arrive at the right moment. More important than the open rate, though, is what happens next – an opened email without a click generates no revenue.
